2015 Starfire Xtreme Cup Recap

Thank you to all who participated in the 2015 Starfire Xtreme Cup, benefiting The Goodtimes Project. With Starfire’s $50 donation to The Goodtimes Project for every registered team, we will be able reinforce the joys of childhood for five kids battling cancer by covering the cost of their week of summer camp at Camp Goodtimes. In addition to supporting a great cause, we had the opportunity to crown a lot of champions! Congratulations to all who took home a trophy!

We hope you all had as much fun as we did, and we hope to see you back in 2016! Let us know how we did this year by filling out our tournament evaluation.

2015 Sounders FC Cup Recap

We had an excellent turnout out for the 2015 Sounders FC Cup this past weekend! The teams were not the only thing making a boom – we even had a thunderstorm roll through Starfire on the final day! Regardless, everyone stayed cheerful and enthusiastic. Thank you to all teams that participated and congratulations to the champions!

Additionally, thank you to all those who participated in our Soccer Skills Challenge! With over 100 kids participating, our winners were up against some tough competition. Congratulations to Ariana Daniel (GU13), Brendan Nicol (BU13), Ashlynn Hall (GU13+), and Cameron Caladretto (BU13+) who took home the 1st place prizes! Sounders fall to Timbers in USOC

Sounders fans an players are likely still reeling from tonight’s US Open Cup match. After a nineteen game winning streak at Starfire Sports, Sounders FC fell to the Portland Timbers in the 2015 US Open Cup. The fourth-round matchup saw a lot of early contact, and not a lot of action at either goal line. At the half, there were 0 shots on goal and 15 fouls in the books.

The opportunities picked up in the second half, and it felt like we might have a game on our hands. Portland took the lead in the 48th minute, and the Sounders gained momentum and created a number of solid challenge. Despite being down to 10 men after a second yellow card for Evans, the Sounders tied things up in the 79th minute when a corner kick from Lamar Neagle made its way to Obafemi Martins, who knocked it home. However, the beginning of the end for the Sounders would come shortly thereafter.

In the 87th minute, Obafemi Martins took a bad step and was escorted off the field on a stretcher. Adding insult to actual injury, the Sounders had made their final substitution of the match a mere 3 minutes earlier. This left the squad down to nine men as the final minutes of regulation time wound down. They were able to hold on to send the match into overtime, but they would be facing significant hurdles to make the comeback.

In the 100th minute, Portland would take the lead when Wallace scored the eventual game-winner off a deflection. The Sounders worked to mount a comeback, but those dreams were squashed when a questionable red card was shown to Micheal Azira in the 112th minute, causing an uproar from Clint Dempsey that resulted in two yellows for. This left the Sounders with seven men on the field. The team continued to press, but the 3rd goal from the Timbers in the 116th minute would be the final score of the match. The Sounders fall 3-1 as the Timbers advance to the 3rd round of US Open Cup Play.

The Starfire Spring Classic was a fantastic kick off to summer tournament season at Starfire Sports. The weather was perfection, and the campus was buzzing with thousands of youth soccer players out to show their stuff. A big thank you to all who came to compete, and congratulations to all our champions!

S2 Tops WFC2 in USL Cascadia Matchup

In their second game of the regular season, S2 faced off against Cascadia rivals Whitecaps FC 2. S2 dominated the game from the first minutes, and never took their foot off the gas despite holding an early lead. With a hat trick from Darwin Jones, S2 notched a 4-0 win.

Reign Fall to FC Kansas City 1-2 in NWSL Championships

It was a tough match today in the NWSL Championship between the Seattle Reign FC and Kansas City FC.

In the first half, there were many opportunities for the Reign and many shots on goal. None, however made it inside the net. Seattle dominated Kansas City with great ball movement, skills, and hard work out on the pitch and things were looking good. However, the first goal in the 22nd minute scored by KC put Kansas ahead of Seattle midway through the first half. It was a nice shot by Amy Rodriguez. Seattle continued to fight with many shots and some great crosses in front of the goal but could not finish them off. Jessica Fishlock was able to make some attempts at goal and some great plays to her teammates. Megan Rapinoe with her footwork, looked to pass the ball off as she ran down the field creating more opportunities for Seattle.

Starting off the second half, Reign continued to pressure Kansas City with more opportunities inside the box, including a foul at the top of the box and a free kick for Fishlock. It wasn’t enough, though as KC FC scored their second goal in the 56th minute of the game giving Rodriguez her second goal of the day. Seattle played even harder, firing one shot after another on frame. One finally makes it in after 87 minutes, a beautiful goal by Rapinoe putting the Reign up on the board! In the last few minutes, Seattle fights to score their second goal to tie it all up, but is unable to find the net. Seattle Reign put up a great fight against Kansas City in the championship match, but came up short of a win.

This year’s event benefited the Neagle Foundation, and over $8000 was raised for this great organization! We would like to acknowledge FC Edmonds Elite GU13 and Kent City B03 Black, who tied in our fundraising challenge to win a team party with Lamar Neagle!

Sounders top Fire 6-0 in US Open Cup Semifinals

The Seattle Sounders faced off against the Chicago Fire in the semifinals of the 2014 US Open Cup in the fortress that is open-cup-scores_8-13Starfire Sports. The Sounders are unbeaten in Open Cup play at Starfire, and their streak continued last night as they topped the Fire 6-0 in front of a packed house. The scoring opened up early with a goal by Chad Barrett off an assist from Kenny Cooper in the 6th minute. The 2nd goal came from Andy Rose off a Marco Pappa corner kick in the 33rd minute. Rose would score again in the 58th minute to send the Sounders into halftime up 3 to nil.

The Sounders continued their domination in the 2nd half, scoring their remaining three goals within six minutes of one another after a match filled with a pretty incredible offensive showing. In the 79th minute, Obafemi Martins took advantage of a bad touch by the Fire and brought it all the way to goal from near half in a solo effort to put the Sounders up 4. In the 82nd minute, Cooper landed a beautiful cross by DeAndre Yedlin in the back of the net. Cooper continued the onslaught when Martins delivered a perfect through pass to win the game at 6-0.

This win sends the Sounders to their 5th USOC final in six years, where they will face the Philadelphia Union.
