Tough Loss for Reign in Final Match of 2013 Season
This evening was the final match of the 2013 season for the women of the Seattle Reign FC, as they took on the women of the Portland Thorns FC. An abundance of fans were in attendance for tonight’s match, filling the entire stadium at Starfire and bringing great energy! There were a number of vendors catering this evening’s match, including “Charlie’s Buns N’ Stuff” and “Los Chilangos” food trucks.
After a tough loss last Saturday against the Washington Spirit, the Reign were eager to comeback strong and finish close their season with a win. The Reign had an excellent start to the match, with a fabulous goal in the second minute of play by Midfielder #15, Megan Rapinoe. Unfortunately, the Thorns offense pushed ahead and were able out-maneuver Hope Solo 7th minute leading to a goal. The tied score forced the Reign to recognize their errors and improve their overall intensity and focus. The Reign’s offense took control and began to make smarter decisions with the passing game for the remainder of the half.

There was a slow start to the second half, with both teams battling to take control of the possession. Once again, the offense amplified their aggression and fired shot after shot at the Thorns’ Keeper, Karina LeBlanc. Sadly, the Reign were unable to find an opening and score. In the 82nd minute, the Portland Thorns offense drove down field and launched a ball just out of Solo’s reach. The final score of the match was 2-1, Thorns.
It was a devastating loss for the Reign. They finished out the season with an overall record of 5 wins and 14 losses. Tickets are now available for purchase for the 2014 Season online at seattlereignfc.com.
