Reign Fall to FC Kansas City 1-2 in NWSL Championships
It was a tough match today in the NWSL Championship between the Seattle Reign FC and Kansas City FC.
In the first half, there were many opportunities for the Reign and many shots on goal. None, however made it inside the net. Seattle dominated Kansas City with great ball movement, skills, and hard work out on the pitch and things were looking good. However, the first goal in the 22nd minute scored by KC put Kansas ahead of Seattle midway through the first half. It was a nice shot by Amy Rodriguez. Seattle continued to fight with many shots and some great crosses in front of the goal but could not finish them off. Jessica Fishlock was able to make some attempts at goal and some great plays to her teammates. Megan Rapinoe with her footwork, looked to pass the ball off as she ran down the field creating more opportunities for Seattle.
Starting off the second half, Reign continued to pressure Kansas City with more opportunities inside the box, including a foul at the top of the box and a free kick for Fishlock. It wasn’t enough, though as KC FC scored their second goal in the 56th minute of the game giving Rodriguez her second goal of the day. Seattle played even harder, firing one shot after another on frame. One finally makes it in after 87 minutes, a beautiful goal by Rapinoe putting the Reign up on the board! In the last few minutes, Seattle fights to score their second goal to tie it all up, but is unable to find the net. Seattle Reign put up a great fight against Kansas City in the championship match, but came up short of a win.

Seattle Sounders win against San Jose Earthquakes in PKs
The Sounders won their fifth round Open Cup match-up tonight in an extremely memorable fashion. A sold-out, sunny Starfire Stadium set the stage for a battle against the San Jose Earthquakes.
The score line opened up in the 24th minute, as Steven Lenhart ripped a volley from outside the box for a San Jose goal.
Seattle didn’t stay quiet for long though, and followed up with another goal just two minutes later in the 26th minute, as Kenny Cooper finished the equalizer set up by Lamar Neagle.
The next 64 minutes were back and forth between the two teams, but while both teams had great chances, Seattle outshot the Earthquakes 31-15.
The teams remained tied throughout all of extra time as well, so it was penalty kicks that were going to be the deciding factor.
The Sounders finished all four of their penalty kicks, while San Jose made only two, with one being saved by Marcus Hahnemman and the other hitting the post.
It was Lamar Neagle’s kick that sent the Sounders through to the next round of the US Open Cup, hosting Cascadia Cup rival Portland Timbers here at Starfire on July 9th.
